description

Dolf Morgette’s reputed ability with a sixgun hasn’t deteriorated after a two year stint in jail for a crime he didn’t commit. Now, having studied the law as an inmate, Dolf takes his presidential pardon in hand and heads for his home town of Pinebluff. A man who has been railroaded into prison has more than a few scores to settle.

Even before the sun sets on Morgette’s first day of freedom, he is ambushed by an unidentified horseman. Though he escapes unharmed, Dolf realizes that there are many people around Pinebluff who would just as soon not see him reestablish his position in the territory. Suddenly a fugitive once again, he seeks refuge with his old companion, Doc, and the two men are joined by Dolf’s younger brother Matt, and an added surprise—Dolf’s son, now a strapping and loyal young man of eighteen.

Enemies, both old and new, soon begin to emerge. Though the powerful men of the territory all vie for Dolf’s support and allegiance, Dolf suspects that these are the same men who would most like to see him dead, and out of the way. Likewise, the women he encounters at every turn seem equally intent on roping this bitter yet determined man. Unfortunately, among these women are the daughter of one of his potential benefactors—and potential enemies—and Dolf’s treacherous but beautiful former wife, now married to the questionable man who took over the old Morgette spread.

As Pinebluff is thrust into a bloody power struggle, Dolf Morgette reluctantly finds himself at the very heart of the conflict. Assailed from all sides, able to trust no one but Doc and the loyal Morgette menfolk, yet finding sanctuary where he least expects it, this hard-bitten rangeman fights through to an explosive conclusion.
