Spirit in the Machine, The

In the explosive finale of the Bloodstorm trilogy, an attack on a beloved Swedish institution forces investigators to examine the power of extremism, activism, and AI as they confront their own demons.

When a deadly terrorist attack devastates Stockholm’s Royal Dramatic Theatre, the ensuing tragedy rocks the nation. And after a case of writer’s block pushes her back to the force, police officer-cum-crime writer Julia Malmros is eager to help.

Julia’s ex-husband, Jonny Munther, leads the investigation. And although she’s been assigned to more peripheral duties, her personal connection to the case makes it impossible to stay on the sidelines. Julia’s determined to get to the heart of the crime.

Then tragedy strikes again—this time, at a mosque.

As increasing hostilities threaten to tear Sweden apart, young Astrid Helander, orphaned daughter of Julia’s childhood friend, grows radicalized under another’s influence. Julia and her partner, hacker Kim Ribbing, race to untangle a dangerous web of deception to discover who—or what—is at the center of the violence. But with extremism rising on all sides, the line between us and them starts to disappear, leaving only hatred and bloodshed in its wake.
